Meet the 2026 Board of Directors Nominees
The Nominating Committee, Rhonda Loo, Richelle Lu, and Glenn Okimoto, has submitted the following nominees for election (four to be elected):
Christian Apo Takayama
Member since 2017
Christian is a sales and client relations leader with experience across automotive, education, and communications sectors. He currently serves as Sales Manager and Lead Client Advisor at BMW of Maui, earning national recognition for performance and customer service. His background includes teaching STEAM subjects at Kamehameha Schools Maui and managing client accounts at a New York PR firm.
He holds a B.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University and is a graduate of the Ka Ipu Kukui leadership fellowship.
Moana Lutey
Member since 1994
Moana currently serves as County Clerk for the County of Maui, where she supports the legislative branch and oversees local and national elections. A graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai‘i, she previously worked as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and with the Department of the Corporation Counsel.
Moana has served on the Board of Directors since 2023 and previously on the Supervisory Committee.
Edwin Okubo
Member since 1971
Edwin has served on the Board of Directors for 29 years, including 10 as Chair and eight as Vice Chair. A Lahainaluna High School and University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa graduate, he is a U.S. Army veteran and retired County of Maui Housing Administrator with nearly 38 years of service.
He has also served on the Hale Mahaolu Board and the Hawai‘i Community Reinvestment Corporation. Edwin remains dedicated to guiding the credit union’s growth, financial strength, and member service excellence.
Kirsten Szabo
Member since 2010
Kirsten currently works as a Legislative Analyst in the Office of Council Services and brings nearly 30 years of healthcare finance experience across Hawai‘i, California, and Idaho. She has served as CFO for Terry Reilly Health Services, Vice President at Ohana Pacific Management, and CFO for Hale Makua Health Services, the Community Clinic of Maui, and Maui Memorial Medical Center.
She holds a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Colorado, a B.S. in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in California.

Maui County Federal Credit Union is seeking members who are passionate about helping others, have fresh ideas, and want to support the financial well-being of Maui County.
If you’re interested in being part of our volunteer leadership, you may submit a nomination by petition signed by at least 1% of the membership.
Petition forms are available at any Maui County FCU branch.
Deadline: Friday, January 24, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. HST
The election will not be conducted by ballot, and there will be no nominations from the floor if the number of nominees equals the number of positions to be filled.
The election will be conducted by a vote of members at the Annual Meeting.
